What Happens After a Report
1. Initial Review
After a report is received, the Office of Title IX reviews the information to determine whether the reported conduct falls within the scope of Title IX or other applicable university policies.
2. Informational Meeting
If the matter is within the office’s jurisdiction, the impacted individual is contacted and invited to participate in an informational meeting. This provides an opportunity to discuss available resources, supportive measures, reporting options, and potential resolution pathways, allowing the individual to gain a better understanding of their rights, options, and university procedures.
3. Choosing a Pathway
Following the meeting, the impacted individual may choose whether to pursue a formal complaint or request supportive measures only. If a formal complaint is filed, the matter may proceed through either a formal investigation or an informal resolution pathway (such as Restorative Resolution).
4. Investigation and Adjudication
A formal investigation includes notice to parties, information gathering, and evidence review. Upon completion, the matter is referred to Student Conduct and Community Standards for adjudication through a live hearing or alternative resolution process before a final outcome determination is issued.
A Roadmap of the Title IX ProcessRight to an Advisor
Throughout the student conduct process, including both investigation and adjudication, all students have the right to be accompanied by an advisor. The FSU Student Conduct Code 2025 defines an advisor as any individual selected to provide guidance and support. To participate, the University must be notified of the advisor’s identity and anticipated attendance through submission of the required advisor notification form before any proceeding.
